My wife and I own and manage an independent café and with retail giants like Tim Horton’s and Starbucks dragging new customers in by the second, we are always trying to innovate with comfier furniture, softer lighting, and of course, better sounding music.

A few months ago, our Bose speakers died on us after many years of amazing performance. We needed to find replacements as quickly as possible, but we also needed a high-quality speaker that was also able to take the abuse of a busy environment.

We went into B and H Photo and spoke to a very helpful and knowledgeable sales associate. After listening to our needs, she suggested that we take home a Beats by Dr. Dre Beats Pill+ Portable Speaker Standard Collection (PRODUCT)RED.

The Beats Pill+ is a high-end, medium speaker that is fantastic for bass lovers. The front of the Beats Pill is a very durable speaker cover. It is surrounded by a silicone band that makes it easy to grip and move in a fast-paced environment.

Weighing in at a little over one-and-a-half pounds and measuring at 2.5” by 8.2 5”, we can’t believe how something that is so lightweight and portable is able to deliver such dynamic sound.

On the top of the Beats Pill+ is the ‘On’ button. Press it, the logo in the middle of the speaker lights up, which means you can activate connect it to your iPod, iPhone, or other compatible smart devices. Our baristas really love this feature because they can easily play their favorite music from their phones without having to search through other employees’ playlists. There is even a free Beats app that you can download in the App Store to make finding, playing and sharing your favorite tunes with others.

The speaker has five LED lights that serve as a battery life indicator and ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ volume buttons on top for added convenience. The Beats Pill+ also comes equipped with Bluetooth wireless connectivity, which also you to connect compatible Bluetooth-enabled devices, including other Pill + speakers.

On the back of the Beats Pill+, you’ll see a rubber flap that opens to reveal a USB port that can be used to charge any compatible device with a USB cable. A really handy feature for both our baristas and customers who need to charge their phones or tablets.

The speaker takes three hours to reach and a full charge and can give you up to 12 hours of battery life. When I first got the speaker, I had a little trouble setting it up. I reached out to B&H Photo’s Live Chat. The agent I chatted with walked my thought the entire process and patiently answered all of my questions.

My wife and I are also huge proponents of fair trade and various charities, and when we found out that the Beats Pill+ was available as a Product (RED) we jumped at it.
