Serious About Weight Management? Buy a Smart Scale

Are you in the market for a new scale?

BHPhoto carries a wide variety of smart scales, including the ever popular Fitbit Aria Smart Scale. This Wi-Fi scale is very easy to setup using your phone and is an excellent way to keep track of your weight, lean body mass, and body fat in the short-term and long run. The scale saves up to 8 users with privacy settings and works with Fitbit trackers and the Fitbit app.

Getting Started

To get started take a battery out of the scale and put it back into the compartment to set up the scale. Connect to the scale's network (Aria) from your phone's Wi-Fi setting. Next, the scale will search for your home wireless network; just put your Wi-Fi password in, hit submit and you'll see the scale's LCD display: "Joining Wi-Fi." Then, go to your home's network and hit "I'm connected." You can download the Fitbit app to keep track of your weight, lean body mass, and more.

Is it Accurate?

The Fitbit Aria scale comes in glossy white or black. It uses BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis) to estimate total body water (TBW). The scale sends a low electrical signal up one of your legs and down the other to measure your body fat; the ideas behind this is that fat mass impedes the electrical signal. However, this method of body fat calculation has issues because the number can vary widely based on your level of hydration. So while you have some idea of your body fat, smart scales that use this method tend to provide BMI results than can vary.

Sleek and Clean

If you love the scale's clean, sleek aesthetic. You might want to consider buying the black version because of sweaty residue, hair, dust, pet fur, etc. really show up on the white scale. However, the Aria is super easy to clean, just wipe the scale with a damp cloth. Be sure to dry the scale afterward to avoid a slippery surface.

Battery Life

The Aria comes equipped with 4 AA batteries. Battery life performance depends on how often you use the scale. If you and others in your household use the scale frequently, you'll need to replace the batteries about 3 to 4 times a year. Not bad considering how often we have to charge our other digital devices.

So if you're serious about health and wellness, then a smart scale might be worth it. Not sure what brand of smart scale is best for your weight management goals? A BHPhoto in-store or online expert is ready to answer your questions and help you find the right product for your needs and budget.
